Interviewing a D`ancer/Cop

The Leaf-Peepers, the Knitter, and Me

The title of this section is a riff on a Muppet song, “Rainbow Connection.” You can listen to it here

This past weekend, my spouse and I went to a festival where there was a ton of yarn, some sheep, some herding dogs (mostly border collies) and lots of leaves turning color for the autumn. It was a wonderful trip, and I encountered many people I would have never met.

It was also a hard trip for me because I couldn’t see the changing of the leaves. Everything looked either faded green or brown to my visually impaired eyes. I miss seeing color, but I did get to see some, as my spouse took pictures of my guide dog sitting in a meadow of leaves. With my dog for comparison, my eyes were able to focus on the color all around his paws. Below is a picture of RAWH sitting on the leaf-strewn  ground and looking very poodley.

Interview With a Dancer/Cop

Emily: Good morning, Bob. Have you had your coffee yet?

Bob: Today I managed it, yes. A work life balance. I can live with. Between you and me, I’d rather spend all of my time with that suspicious-acting federal agent.

Emily: Agent Nick Pierce?

Bob: That’s him. I mean, he might not be a federal agent, like I assume, but I sure as hell don’t recognize him from around here.

Emily: You’re on the police force, right? A detective?

Bob: That’s right.

Emily: I thought you had a side gig.

Bob: I absolutely do.

Emily: What is it?

Bob: Something I had to get permission from Captain Argos to do.

Emily: Want to share?

Bob: I’m a dancer at a gay club in our little sleepy college town.

Emily: I hear your stage name is Birdie. Where did that come from?

Bob: Well, considering my full name is Bob White…

Emily: Tell me why you want to spend all your time with this “suspicious-acting” agent.

Bob: He’s compelling, he’s handsome, he’s not quite out to himself yet, and there’s something dark about him that needs a loving hand. Did I mention he’s hotter than the sun?

Emily: Hmm, I think you did. What’s stopping you from jumping his bones?

Bob: Which part of “not out to himself” did you miss?
